Stop Telling these Stories to Yourself.
We often tell ourselves lies in to make us feel better about life; however white lies only hamper your progress.

Here are some common white lies people tell themselves:
Ø I am what I am
This is not true; your behavior
is more than what you are and is not yourself in moments of crisis. YOU contain
powerful, dynamic, and complex parts. Your personality has different parts,
some of which are painful and destructive at times, like anger and resentment;
others are good and generous like gratitude, compassion, and love. Sometimes
your body reacts with anger, sometimes with love. When you are unaware of these
elements of your personality they can control you. When you are self-aware you
can choose not to be the victim of emotions that are destructive and painful,
instead you can choose emotions that are healthy and constructive. When you are
angry, choose to deal with the situation with patience. This is hard to do but
how easy it is to live in isolation caused by destructive anger?
Ø I have no time.
This is a poor
excuse, a white lie you tell yourself to get rid of your responsibilities. You
always have time for your health and wellness. You have time to get your body
in shape and eat healthy. You have to want it enough to make yourself a
priority. Six months from now you will be much better, or sad you did not start
already. Make it your goal and hit the gym, work out at home, or bicycle to
work. You have time!
Ø It’s not my fault, I’m a victim.
You are not a
victim. No one but you is responsible for how you feel and react. You are
responsible for your own actions. It’s easy to blame others for your feelings
and overlook your responsibilities in relationships and at work. Learn to
accept your faults, it will enhance your credibility and help build stronger
relationships. It’s up to you whether you want to be the victim of
circumstances or the master of them.
Ø My entire family is overweight, it’s in our genes.
This excuse often
limits your success. The fact that you have a slow metabolism is an excuse.
It’s true that genetics play an important role in how your body functions since
before you were born, but epigenetics has taught us that genes can be switched
off and on. You can choose a healthy lifestyle that can turn off your genes
that are acting as barriers to your health and success and turn on the genes
that help you lead a healthier life. The key is good nutrition and exercise for
almost everyone. There are many people who thought they were destined to be
overweight from genetics, but they set goals and lost weight by making simple
adjustments to their lifestyle.
It is well said by
Jordan Belfort, “The only thing standing between you and your goal is the
bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it.”
